Webmastering is a beginning technology course that deals with a variety of topics in computer technology. We create webpages using HTML code and Web Editors, visual media using PhotoShop, animation using Flash, webpage interactivity using JavaScript and much more. This is an advanced level elective that is perfect for students that may not want to take on the amount of programming that is seen in computer science and want to learn about different types of Web applications. Nearly all of the work for this course is completed in class. Webmastering is available to students entering 9-12th grade.
Computer Science Pre-AP is a computer programming course that is designed for students who enjoy the challenge of problem solving while earning honors credit for their elective. Computer Science Pre-AP uses C++ as the programming language, and teaches both procedural and object-oriented programming, and is a great preparation for students interested in taking Computer Science H/AP and the Computer Science AP exam. Students should be taking or have completed honors Geometry to enroll in Computer Science Pre-AP. If you took on-level geometry, but excelled and think you are up for Computer Science Pre-AP, e-mail Mr. William Evans or Mr. William Langston to see if this course is right for you.
Computer Science I AD is a challenging computer programming course that is just a step behind Computer Science I Pre-AP. The main difference between these 2 courses is not the material taught but the pace at which it is taught (CS I AD is taught at a slower pace). If you are going to be a junior or senior next year and are really interested in computer programming, but aren't quite ready to make the leap to Pre-AP Computer Science, Computer Science 1 Advanced may be for you.
Computer Science H/AP is an honors level course to prepare students to take the AP Computer Science exam. This course focuses on object-oriented programming and uses Java as the programming language. Students that want to enroll in Computer Science H/AP must either have passed both semesters of Computer Science I Pre-AP or have teacher approval (see Mr. Langston in N8 to discuss if you think this is for you).
Technology Applications Independent Study (TAIS) is a course that requires completion of either Webmastering or Computer Science H/AP along with teacher approval from Mr. Langston. This course is also an honors credit and allows students to continue their exploration of programming in an area that interests them.
If you are interested in technology and want to earn honors credit for your electives, consider Computer Science! If you want a fun and interesting computer elective and are interested in Internet-based applications, consider taking Webmastering!
